01/ D BOYS v. MARSHLANDS

Old Boys made their bow to the cricketing" world on Saturday at Marshlands, and, as was expected!, proved very -strong in bowling. Barker and Allcott bowled almost unchanged' through both innings*., and had the batsmen in difficiiaibies, the whole time, Barker in particular showing vei-y great judgment He sent down a great vaiuety, and1 kept the- batsm-oTi thinking. His perform-, ynce in the second innings, when Marshlands players were detormined to stay, was porfcicularly. fine. Allcott was very deadly m the first innings, and Benning in_ three ovora obtiamed two wickets. Barker and! Allcott also gave splendid performances with the bat puttang' on 117 for the second wicket ,and showin"- great judgment in dealing with the Marshlands bowling, which was bettor than would appear from the results. Ryan, in particular, bowled a very puzzling ball but AUcott .and Barker watched him very carefully and; took no liberties until they were well pisfc the Marshlands score. Old Boys' fieildng was not good, but a substitute at point fielded remarkably well for them. The finish of the match was costi exciting, tor Old Boys were after a 4 points win— and they had 9 Marshlands wickets | down for 54 when time was called.
