THE RECEPTION AT PALMER-

STON NORTH

The people of . Palmerston North extended a very hearty welcome to Major-General Sir Edward Chaytor, K.6.M.G., .C.8., D.5.0., and aide-de-camp to the King, who returned to Palmerston on Monday, .after an absence of over /five years abroad on active, service (reports, the correspondent of the Dominion). The business houses were closed for one hour after the Auckland express arrived. Flags and bunting in honor of the occasion were flown from almost all the business premises, while festoons of flags spanned the streets.; At the railway station the GeriCiral was met by an enthusiastic crowd of citizens, who cheered loudly when he made his appearance. The High School Cadets formed a guard of honor for tho General. The Palmerston North and Salvation Army bancfe were present*, and hexded a procession, round the Square and up to the 'Band Rottfmda, tilxe General following in a. motor-ear, wit)a !»ady Chaytor and .the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs J. A. Nash, M.P.). A body of returned soldSer-s followed +he General's car, and a large number of other cars also joined in the procession.
