Mr Hughes saM -that fhe viewed the industrial future-, in 'Britain with apprehension. He predicted the greatest trade war in history, adding thnt England was the worst equipped nation to meet it. Australia paid the highest labor prices <©f any country in the world, yet she could 'beat England in th'i world's eoa'l '■ marikets if freights were normal, not because the pjice of labor was high or low, but because of greater production. He urged England to realise that thequestion was not whether there was to be Capitalism or no Capitalism, Socialism or no Socialism, but whether they would work or not work.
Mr Hughes urged more rapid and cheaper means of communication and more interchange of ideas with the Dominions.
