The ceremony of swearing in Lord Liverpool as tlie first Governor<Jeneral of New Zealand took place at noon to-day in front of the Parliament Library, in the presence of a iarge number of Members of the Legislatiu-e, heads of the Civil Service Departments, and :i concourse of the public. His Excellency,, accompanied by Lady Liverpool, arrived punctually at noon, find received a. Royal salute from a guard of honor consisting of three companies of the 27th Reinforcements, the Rifle Brigade, and the Senior Cadets. His Excellency proceeded to n decorated 'dais at the steps, supported by Mr Massey and Sir Joseph Ward; Here the proclamation appointing Iprd, Liverpool Grovernol-jGeneral was read by the Olerk to the Executive Council. The oaths of ofjicp and allegiance were then administered by Sir Robert Stout. Chief Justice, the consummation of the ceremony being signalled by a fanfare of trumpets and the Royal salute. .
