WOOD- CHOPPING CONTESTS
[Press Association.] (Received April 25, 11.30 p.m.) V SYDNEY, April 25. At tho blood stock yearling sales bidding was somowh at slack. A Tressady—Formula and a Tressady— Sov-sie colt each brought 450 guineas,, and a Dovrashire-— Chutney colt 050 guineas These were top prices. Mr 13. J. ■Watts's Maori King— Tatters filly brought 85 guineas, and ai' All Black —Ttiponq fiUy I^o guineas. Mr W. Mallison. junior, paid 55 guineas for a Kenilworth— Car.dangarang colt, and 65 guineas for a Sando Orient—Golden Dawn colt. The handicap wood chopping contest at-the Show was won by James Forsyth. of New Zealand, with twelve seconds allowance, McTntosh, of Syd 7 nev, the scratch man, coming fourth.. "I desire to draw your attention to tho use oi' obscene language in the public streets: an offence that is beroming too common," said Inspector Kendrey to Mr D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., when a man, charged with this offence, was before the Court, sit Wellington on Thursday. His Worship said he had noticed that men were continually before the Court for using obscene language, and more stringent measures'would have to be adopted to put a stop to the filthy practice.
