The Journal's Petrograd correspondent .sends details from Trebizond of a "fierce engagement at tho Karadcre River on the 17th, the Turks l-eine: routed. Russian hydroplanes located the enemy's entrenched butteries, and the fleet's formidable bombardment smashed tho batteries and destrnyr<.i the .liquid fire apparatus with whi'.-h the Turks hoped to arrest the Russian march. . Alter a severe battle on the ISt.'i the Turks fled, abandoning guns and a, large quantity of ammunition. The Russians entered in triumph, and telegraphed'a glowing message to General Yudenich.

Another account states that before the town foil each quarter was contested house by house and street by street. The Russians were obliged to cvercome a. desperate resistance.
