I'livate A. Pntchett, a son of .MiGeorge Patchett. of Blenheim, has boon serving his King and country in tho fighting in noithern France. In il. letter written by . him at Crewe, Cheshire, England, on August 2'Jst, J'.nd received by his relatives liere^this week, he mentions that he was in three big battles, and was wounded at Festubert, but riot very badly.- M,ony of his comrades were killed alongside him. "Fifty of us,'' he says, "liave just come out of hospital, aria we are gring back to Fraffeo ne.\t \veek. . . .
I don't think ihe war will last long. Tho Germans arc getting badly off, and are osting rrsu beet roots. They are glad to be captured." Pri/ata Pat-jl-.ett was with the Leicestershire Regiment, which l.*t c«ver a thousand men out of a battalion of 1200. He was at the time of writing a member of the Eighth Battery, D. Company, of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. British Expeditionary Force. He enclosed a photograph of the machine gun section to which he was attached
