Considering the importance of tliei issue at stake, the proposal of the* Blenheim Borough Council, to acquire & block of land on the- Wither Set-* tlem-pht for the purposes of a public park was but inuifferently. treated by the ratepayers yesterday, when..the* schen'ie was put to the test by means! of a loan poll. Only about one-thircß of the niiiriber of ratepayers capable* of attending the poll exercised the* function. ,

The block of land in question yrasf an area.of 397 acres, tentatively withdrawn by thei Government from .the* forthcoming closer-settlement . Ballot; and placed at th© option of the municipality; and the proposition was to | raise a. sum of £4000, which would! I provide the purchase money and!, in addition, the money required, for fencing and a certain measure ofi roading and plantation work.
