CHAMPION WALKER IN TROUBLE.
It came as a surprise to the athletic world to learn thatF. E. Roberts, the Essex County walking champion, was an Austrian by birth, and that he had been sentenced to threemonths' imprisonment in the second division for failing to register himself. It appears that Roberts's proper name is Deigel, and whilst there is no reason to think he had abused -the position he held as telephone inspector, tlie Magistrate' felt bound to punish,an evasion of the la>w regarding registration. ,
