LONDON MARKETS.

The High Commissioner's market report, dated London, January 9th, is as follows. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are (average market prices on spot):— Mutton: A fair demand continues. The market is firm, notwithstanding large receipts on account of delay in discharging, and on account of difficulty in securing lahor. Canterbury 5H per Ib, North Island 5 7-16 d, ewes 5 3-16 d. Lamb: The market is steady, and fair business is doing. Canterbury twos 6|d, other than Canterbury 6fd. Very few of this season's lambs are to hand, and they are selling slowly at 7d wr lb. Beef is in fair demand for better grades, and in limited demand for poorer grades. The is firmer on account of purchases for the Government. New Zealand' hinds 6 5-16 d, fores 5-2-d. Of chilled there is a limited supply; hinds 7£d, fores 5-2 d. Butter: The market is firm, with an upward tendency. There is a good demand for colonial butters. Danish is quiet at 150s, to 1541s per cwt; New Zealand, 138s to 140s; Australian 134s to 138s; Siberian, firm, with a good demand, 126s to 1325; Argentine 134s to 1375. Cheese: The market is steady.. Prices are well maintained. Canadian white and colored, firm but quiet, 78s to 79s per cwt; New Zealand white and colored, firm, 76s to 775. The estimated stocks of Canadian cheese oai January Ist were 160,000 boxes, as against 223,000 boxes at the saints tiuie last year. New Zealand cheese stocks on' January Ist were 16,000' Crates, as against 7000 crates at the same time last year. Hemp: The market is rather more active for New Zealand, on account of the small supply on hand. Spot NewZealand, good-fair, £26 10s per ton, fair grade £24 10s, fair current Manila £27 10s, January-March shipment New Zealand good-fair grade £25 10s, fair grade £23 10s; fair current Manila £28. Quotations are. normal. The outout from Manila for the week was 29,000 bales. Wool: The market is firmer for crßssbr.eds, and unchanged for merinos. Wheat: The market is firm, "'with an improved demand. Oats: The market is qniet but firm. Seheelite: Messrs G. Blackwell, Sons, and Co., Ltd., London, -report the onotations on January sth as 26s to 27s per unit.
