ATTACK ON GERMAN REINFORCEMENTS.

.BRILLIANT CHARGE BY ALPINE CHASSEURS.

(Received Jail. 12^11.15 p.m.) , PARIS, Jan. 12. Prior to the capture of Perthjes there was a brilliant attack on Ger-r man reinforcements coming from Grand Pre, in the Ardennes, to prepare fresh> positions behind where the Germans were being heavily pressed. » A battalion of Alpin© chasseurs, with a mountain battery, stumbled oil the .enemy's outposts, who were bayoneted or captured without a shot. The march continued to the enemy's encampment in a hollow. The searchlights were turned on to the unsuspecting Germans. The chasseurs charged with the bayonet. A lucky shot from a French gun fell into the Germans' batteries, and blew up a quantity of ammunition. This discomfited the enemy, who. were in considerably superior numbers, but before they had time to rally the French withdrew and regained their lines.
