APIARIES ACT AMENDMENT.

Writing in the current number of the Journal of Agriculture, Mr T. AY. Kirk, W.L.8., says:—For several jeai;i [>a,st the .necessity for an amendment u'i tho Ai>iaries Act has been apparent. One was accordingly prepared and submitted to the various .beekeepers' associations throughout Nev,- Zealand, and approved by the Conference of the National Beo'fceepiM's' Assooiation of New Zealand, who vrged upon the Government the necov'ty for placing this law on the stain in book.

Bi itily statiedj the amending Act pas.-. d last session provides for the following:— (1.) '1 he issue of regulations to prevent ,-:. he introduction of diseased bees

or L ■: appliances. (2.) Prevention of the removal from one portion of New Zealand to any other portion of diseased bees oi 1 bee appli:!;!3o-3. (8... Prescribing-the way in which -dise.':~.cd bees or bee appiianoeis shall bo 1; ;ai>ed, cloansed, or destix>yed. (4.J Tho compulsory free registration of all apiaries. (5.) Tho inspection, grading, packing, and branding of honey, especially 'or export. It -.vill be seen that these regulation wlion issued will -afford tb*p|?p----"to-d.v'.e beekeeper greater protection fror careloa&ness than has been possible under tfhe old enactment, and will facilitate tjie work of tho instruct ors and prove of great assistance in building up a valuable export trade in honey.
