AMALGAMATED ENGINEERS,

[Prebs Association.] D.UNEDIN, July 1. The Dunedin branch of the Amalgamated' Engineers came before tlie Conciliation Council -to-day. A .'deadlock has occurred over the first clause in the demands, making a week of 44 instead of 47 hours. The employers sjaid that they were not disposed to xxmoede anything in regard to any of the principal clauses, because to do so would prejudice the employers in other centres where disputes had also arisen. It was better, they suggested, to refer the dispute bodily to the Court in "the hope of a Dominion award. The union delegates reluctantly and Mr Triggs formally agreed to the course proposed.
