WAKE UP. MARLBOROUGH!
[lO THE EDITOR.] f Sir, —In last night's issue of your paper a paragraph appears to the effect that the Nelson Advancement Society and Chamber of Commerce are about to negotiate with the Union Steamship Company for a more up-to-date steamer than tlho s.s. Pateena. I would like to point out that Nelson enjoys a daily service at the hands of the Union Company, while we in Marlborough are content with four.trips a week between Wellington and Picton. It is quite time that we woke up and followed Nelson's example in furthering our claims for a daily service and more up-to-date steamers.' Surely if Nelson can support a daily service, we c.iai dp likewise. I understand that the enterprise of the Union Company in inaugurating the daily'service to Nelson has proved more than profitable, and if that is so Marlborough. must be able to do infinitely better, and return to the steamship owners a handsome profit. What about forming an Advancement Society and getting to work? The Chamber of Commerce is evidently composed of dead men, and I for one am prepared to throw in" my youth and energy with any Society that will bring our legitynate claims before the responsible- parties and work for something more regular and upi-to-date than we are putting up with, at the present time. I would like to see someone more able than myself take-this matter up, and as-, sist us to further our just claims. PROGRESS IF YOU CAN
