"QUEEN OF THE CARNIVAL."

INCREASED PUBLIC INTEREST,

RESULT OF FIRST WEEK'S

VOTING

T4ius early in the "Queen of the Carnival" competition Blenheim is agog with excitement, and the polling so far has been sufficiently heavy to warrant the anticipation that this novel competition will be a great success. Among supporters of-the various candidates there is already keen rivalry, and their efforts to secure votes is developing interest quickly. The result of the firfet week's scrutiny is as follows:— Miss Fulton 1184 Miss Cheesman 968 Miss Healy ... 298 Miss Fulton 'a position was vastly improved on Saturday by means of ail active canvass in town, and a collection taken "in Market Square in the evening during an enlivening promenade concert by the Tenth: Mounted Regimental Band also resulted'in a. material addition to the funds being devoted towards the purchase of voties. A euchre tournament will be held on Wednesday . evening in the Loloma, and, it is believed, further means of raising funds are being devised.

Little has been heard of the OT*erations of Miss Gheesman's committee, but that they have been canvassing diligently is evidenced by the number of votes ..polled last week. Supporters o f Miss Healy's candidature are striving energetically to make the picture "benefit" at' His Majesty's Thfatre to-morrow night a financial success, and as a first-class programme is being screened by Fullers a large gathering is expected. All who undertook to sell tdckets should note the provision that sales shall stop after 6 p.m., and it is also de-ured that all cash and unsold tickets shall be returned to-moiTow night. Anart from this entertainment the Rhetoric Club does not appear to be particularly active, but a general meeting will be held in Mr «•■ Wanden's office at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday for the formulation of a scheme of operations.
