PICTON BOROUGH FINANCE

A SATISFACTORY REPORT.

The following report was presented by the chairman of the Finance Committee (Councillor Harwood) at Thursday night's meeting of the Picton Borough Council: — "The-figures supplied by the Town Clerk, bearing upon - the operations during the year just ended, show a very satisfactory result. On the 31st March the bank overdraft was down to £153 14s Bd. Against this has to be placed the items, cash m hand £80 14s lOd (paid in on 31st March after bank hours), and carbide on hand valued at £69. These two items, when . added' together and deducted from th bank overdraft, .reduce that amount to £4, which gives us practically a clean sheet on whicn to start the year's operations. This is the object the Finance Committee liave had in view all along. Compared . with last year, the figures quoted show that we are now financially stronger by £543 14s than when ive commenced last year. We started' the year with a bank; overdraft of £871 14s 9d, and with cash in hand amounting to £227 19s 9d." The un--collected rates left by the lajte Coun- j cii amounted to £747 2s 9d, but. this amount was absorbed in completing the bridge over the Wai]fcohi stream, installing drainage and water at the new wharf, and in works undertaken and commenced by the late, Council. During the year just, ended' the fol- ] lowing amounts have been paid out of general revenue:—Morgue £40 12s, scoop £25, levy Opawa bridge £40, footbridge over Waitohi stream £45— £150 125." '..
