CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. Delegates to the Furniture Workers' Conference this morning complained that the wicker work trade was being crippled by the importation of Japanese and Chinese goods, and urged that a higher tariff was needed to protect the industry, or that the State should take it over. It was decided to ask the Minister for Customs te give effect to the promise to raise the tariff, said to have been given to the Furniture Trades Federation last year.
