THE PANAMA EXHIBITION

Although the Panama-Pacific Exposition at San Francisco will noit be opened till February 20, 1915 the construction and all other preparations are far advanced. Not only are tho majority of tho buildings nearly completed, but plans for events of national and international interest are being perfected. Among these are the initiatory cruise through the Panama Canal of an enormous fleet of. battleships from the navies of the various maritime powers, and: probably a "round-the-world" ■■aviation, contest. There, will be a total expenditure upon the grounds in installation and construction of £10,000,000. A fleet of 30 vessels is engaged in bringing lumber from, northern mills for use in building. The madhin-ery palace," the largest wooden structure m the world, containing eight million feet of lumber, fifteen hundred tons of bolts, and five ear loads of nails, is ready for the installation of exhibits. The nations that have officially accepted the .invitation of the United States to participate are: — Bolivia, Cuba, China, Costa_ Rica, Canada, Dominican Republic, France, Ecuador, Guatemala,. Haiti, Holland, Honduras, Japan, Liberia,- Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Salvador, Sweden, Spain, Uruguay, Argentine Republic, Denmark, Chiii, Brazil, New Zealand, Persia, Italy,' Venezuela, Australia, Bulgaria, and Turkey. The Bureau of Societies and .Conventions of the Exposition :has arranged for 218 congresses and conventions to be held in San Francisco in 1915, and the list is growing daily.
