ST. GEORGE'S SPORTS.
1 THE ANNUAL GATHERING
Although carried but in an unpretentious manner^ the recent anriual sports meetings held by the Mari Iforough branch of the Royal Society ,of St. : George have nevertheless been successful, arid the generous support which pedestrians have accorded the forthcoming meeting on the Wairau Cricket Club's ground on Wednesday next justifies the anticipation that-it will be^rought to a more successful conclusion .than has been the.case for some time past. The Society's action; in' deciding to.hold the meeting earlier than was originally intended appears tojbe a wise One, .and the entries received, including a number of local runners, who are commencing their athletic careers, must be distinctly gratifying. The appearance of G. E. Kinsey, a well-known Marlborough sprinter who recently annexed' the 100 yards New Zealand champonship and is now, even afifcer a lengthy career, >in .the . very first" flight of the dominion's sprinters, adds interest to "tejmeeting, and with indications for such a-fine programme of events being so well contested the.public should be i rewarded .Wit^.-an interesting emtertainment. •
_ Acceptances for all events close with the secretary at 8.30 p.m. on Saturday.
