AN ENTHUidIASTIC MEETING.

PRELIMINARr; ARRANGEMJENTR MADE.

.There was a liberal response to the advertisement convening a meeting in the band-room last night of those interested in "The Winter Carnival" promoted, in aid of the contest fund ■of,-; the Tenth Mounted Regimental Band,' and the making- of preliminary arrangements was entered into with a zest which encourages hopes for a highly successful and attractive function.,,..- ;■ ', •.:•. v -. ;- .■;• ■ ;:■-;■'-; ; ■.-.-.. .Business was of a general natureand various , phases of the proposed -carnival were discussed; /:■ The following executive., committee was electedy •with(rpower to add: Messrs N. G Perrw, H. Pope, C. A. Forrest. J. Benmng, J. G. Bacon, C. Malloy,* A. Cartwright, and A. M. Thomson. Mr N vC. ; Porrin .<was appointed treasurer. : s ; . Arrangements are to be made, for the establishment of the following stalls/: Cigarettes, produce, plain and fancy sowing, sweets, Oriental goods, arid "The Old Curiosity Shop." A ladies' committee will be appointed next week, and the control of the various stalls has been delegated to them. . , . : j It is quite probable ihat the ckief I feature of the entertainment will be ! dancing, but endeavors are being i madev to arrange for a historical pageant for at least two nights. It was decided to hold a "queen of the carnival" competition, and steps: will be taken to'promote this as soon as possible. . - -- .:
