REINSTATEMENT OF .RESIGNING OFFICERS

In. the House of Commons, Mr Ramsay Mac Donald said that if General Gougb. was not .prepared to do his duty he ought-to be dismissed. The Syndicalists had apparently succeeded in inoculatirig the' Tories with their poisonous views. -Hundreds of thousands of trades unionists wouM say that the arnvy officerswere prl-. pared to shoot strikers becaWW they did not sympathise with tluStt, but they would not do -their duty in Ulster because of class bias and political prejudices. Lord JViorley,, in .the House of Lords, repeated -the Ministerial statement given in ,the House of Commons, and added that the King had approved of General Gough and his officers being ordered to rejoin their regiments. The newspapers ..state, that the; War Office verbally assured Gough yesterday that the cavalry would be required on\y. to .'assist in the preservation of law and cruder in Ulster. uxiieral Gough. asked for a written assurance, wiiich mas ;. granted, and he agreed io ieslume his duties. He tdegraphedio the regiment that all officers would be -reinstated without loss of prestige. The Daily jtfaiKadds that General Gough telegraphed .to. the officers at Curragh on after his first visit to the War Jttffice: "We found strong support on this side, and believe that we shall come through all right if, we stand.firm,''
