ATTEMPT AT MURDER

MAN SHOOTS HIS WIFE.

DUNEDIN, March 23. , George Havelock Chreen, vrho was arrested at Auckland three weeks ago on. a cliarge of disobeying an order for the maintenance of his wife and ohildien, and who was brought back to Dunedin, went to Sawyer's Bay yesterday, where iiis wife is engaged as housekeeper. He fired .shots, all of which iook effect in the woman's neck and "shoulders.

Green then walked to Port Chalmers, where he was arrested. It is understood that the wounds *are not critical.

DUNEDIN, March 24. Further particulars concerning the shooting incident at Sawyer's Bay on Sunday show that Green went to PeTry's house. He entered. the kitchen and asked, nis wife to go for a -walk, a request which she refused. He then produced1 a revolver and shot her in the hand and upper portion of the Tjody. . Green went to Port Chalmers and gave himself up to the police. He was charged with attempted murder and remanded for ?a week. The 'bullets have been extracted rrom Mrs Green's neck and shoulders, and sne is progressing favorably.
