Over 400 houses in the borough of Gore were affected by flood water, and the process of cleaning and drying was carried out with diligence. Notwithstanding this, the weather has been so wet and the j sunshine so limited that many houses still bear traces of. the effects of the flood. The drying-up process has been slow, and as a consequence some homes are still somewhat damp and cold. The result is now telling on the young children, as the attendance at the infant classes at the Gore public school shows. Many children are kept at home with coughs, colds, and sore throats, and the average attendance of this room has not been so low j for many years.
