Sir James Carroll is progressing rapidly towards recovery. He has been able to leave his bed.
Mr James Penney underwent an operation at a private hospital in Blenheim this week. His many friends will hope to hear of his speedy recovery.
Mr Douglas Dobson, who was formerly a civil engineer in Blenheim, and who is noir engineer to the Westport Borough Council, is on a visit to Blenheim.
Mr Bert Tasker met with a painful accident on Wednesday afternoon. Jumping off a packing case he had the misfortune to alight on a nail, which went tlirough his foot. He is able to get aboiit with the aid of a stick, and no serious result is feared.
News has been received in Napier that Mr Geoffrey Haggen, a Hawke's Bay boy, lias received the Rhodes Scholarship for the province of Ontario, Canada. Mr Haggen is the son of Mr E. A. Haggen, formerly proprietor of the Woodville Examiner. He was born in Taradale, and received his education first at Taradale school under Mr R. Goulding, and lately at Toronto University. He has now gained the highest honor open to a colonial student, and is entitled to three years at Oxford University with a scholarship of £300 a year.
