DAIRY ASSOCIATION

DIRTY MILKING MACHINES^

[Press Association.]

PALMERSTON N., June 18. At its annual meeting the National Dairy Association resolved that this meeting views with grave concern the public utterances of the Prime Minisr ter and Mr Cuddie in reference to the influence which milking machines were having upon the Dominion s, dairy produce, and expressed the opinion that some steps should be adopted to mitigate the evil. Speaking to the motion, the mover (Mr Nathan) said that some milking machines were filthy. It won record that some farmers milk had been refused by the factory, and they had to go elsewhere to get rid or it. Ml- Cuddie said that the Department had sent instructors to inspect 300 machines. They found only 23 per cent, really clean. They could not appoint inspectors to go round, because they would need an army ot men. there being 30,000 dairy farms in the country. It rested with. the. factories to refuse inferior milk, and managers should be backed up by tJie directors.
