LABOR AGENCY FEES.

A DUNEDIN PROTEST,

DUNEDIN, June 18. Representatives of private labor agencies waited on. the Hon. Mr Massey, pointing oxit their difficulties with regard) to the new regulations, especially in the direction of the scale of fees charged to employers. If they were compelled to charge 10s 6d to employers they would simply not come to them, and the agents would be unable to make a living.

Mr Massey replied that strong paragraphs had appeared in the annual labor report to the effect that in many of the registry offices the workers alone Ayere charged the prescribed fees, while the employers were either not charged at all or charged very little. It had been felt impossible for that system to go on. He was quite willing to have the whole scale revised, on the understanding that the license- of the agent would depend on the foes being equitably divided bet-ween employer and employee. Mr McDonald, an agent, suggested that if employers and employees were charged similarly things would work well.

Mr Massey suggested making the fees dependent on the employees boms a certain time with the employers.
