RUGBY UNION.

The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Rugby Union was held last evening, the following members being present: Messrs J. JL. Lord (chairman), J. ,P. W. Lamb, J. H. Priddle, J. Strickland, G. O. Griffitibs, and A. Prentice (secreThe Chairman welcomed Mr Prentice as a member of the Union, and trusted that they would all be able to work harmoniously for the betterment of Rugby locally. Mr Prentice acknowledigea the gireetings of the president, and, assured the Union of his intention to carry out his duties in a manner which he trusted'N would engender mutual satisfaction. -

TRANSFER OF PLAYERS

! An application was received from P. Chandler to play for the Opawa Club during the present season. Mr Lamb moved that Chandler be allotted to the Waitohi Club. He deprecated the practice of allotting j pjayers to the strongest clubs, and I thought that as Picton was the I weakest club it should be considered in the matter.

Mr Strickland seconded the motion pro forma, also expressing disapproval of any proposal to strengthen the strong clubs. Mr Pi-iddle expressed his opinion ( that players should not be transferred iat all; the present system of trans- ■ ferring players intermittently was not at all satisfactory. The Chairman stated that under the present circumstances it would be inimical to the interests of Rugby to adopt such a course, as tihey shoujM^ I cater for those Rugby players who 1 could not obtain a game in the dis- [ tricts where clubs did not exist.

Mr Griffiths moved an amendment that the Waitohi Club be notified! of Chandler's application to play for Opawa, and asked' if they require him for their team.

The Chairman seconded the amendment, which, after discussion, was lost.

Mr Griffiths moved a further amendment that no transfers be granted until next meeting, and that clubs be notified that all applications to have players included in their teams must be in by that date. This would obviate the frequent (recurrence of applications for transfer.

The Chairman -did not accept the amendment.

The motion was then put and lost. Mr Griffiths thereupon moved that Chandler's application be granted. Mr Beirne seconded the motion.

Mr Strickland opposed the motion because it was contrary to the interests of the game to allot players to the strongest clubs. The motion was carried.

The Chairman moved that all applications for transfer within Marlborough be not considered after a fortnight's time. Mr Rothwell seconded the motion, which was carried.

JUNIOR. "REP." MATCHES

Mr Griffiths mentioned that it was advisable to encourage junior football this year by endeavoring to arrange junior representative matches, and at his suggestion it was decided to write to the Wellington Rugby Union and ask it, in the event of a Marfborough junior "rep." team going to Welling-

ton, a return match would be played in Blenheim. THE SENIOR. SELECTOR. Mention was niaxjk^ of, the fact that the senior selectof||fakH not attended any of the senior matches held this season, a neglect which was not to the benefit of those candidates for representative honors who were displaying form to warrant their inclusion

After discussion, Mr Beirne moved that the Union appoint three selectors from the Union, and that Mr Wanden be notified that this action was the result of his failure to attend senior matches. .

The Chairman seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Messrs. ■Griffiths, Lamb, and Strickland were appointed to aot as coselectors for the present season. It was also stated that'the junior selector had been lacking in his duty in some 'respect, and members expressed tihe opinion that it was absolutely essential that selectors should be present at every match, according to the grade they have to pick their teams from.

GENERAL

It was decided to request the Picton Club to put their ground in order for matches.' ;. .

Mr Lamb was instructed to make arrangements for the taking of a gate charge at Spring Creek on Saturday next.

The Referees' Association notified that the Domain ground was in need of touch flags, and it was necessary that touch-line judges should be provided with flags indicating the club's colors.

It was mentioned that th© Ground Committee would see that the touch flags were provided, and it was decided that the clubs be asked to provide their own touch-flags. The president mentioned that the goal posts on the Domain required padding. Mr Priddle stated that tihe Ground Committee had this matter in view.
