EFFECT OF FINANCIAL
WORRIES
Two young men named W. M. . Maguire and Ernest Williani Atkins, \ engaged a room at the People's - Palace, Brisbane, on May 22. Groans were .heard nes± morning emanating from their room. Atkins was found , lying on a bed deeply gashed in the I wrist and arm. A razor was by his side, and the bedclothes were saturated with blood. Maguire was suffering from the effects of chlorodyne, ! four empty chlorodyne bottles being ! found in the room. j Maguire was conveyed to the watchhouse, and Atkins was removed to the hospital. It is not expected he will recover. Inquiries show that Atkins came to Queensland from New Zealand. He ! purchased a farm at Kin Kin, on the | north coast line, and took Maguire into partnership. The business pros- [ pered for a-time, but eventually they were beset with financial difficulties. To add to their troubles, Atkins recently received word of the death of his sweetheart in New Zealand. The men purchased four bottle of chlorodyne with the apparent object of ending their lives. i
