Th.c secretary informed the Board that he had received £13 from the Defence Department for hire of the hall for Territorial drill purposes. The Department of Agriculture wrote stating that Mrs Simmonds's application for the renewal of slaughter license was having consideration.

The Otaki Town Board wrote asking for information regarding the cost of gas plant, etc. The secretary was instructed to reply. The secretary informed the Board that in response to an application made by him for revaluation of certain properties in the town, the Government Valuer had made the necessary revaluations, and these would appear on the ratepayers' roll later. It was. resolved that the collection of rate for current year should be considered at the next meeting of the Board.

The secretary was instructed to send out notices regarding the non-uso of public drains. Mr Reader spoke at some length in connection with the projected drainage scheme for the town. He thought that sufficient information was now in the hands of the Board to warrant the matter being put before the ratepayers for their approval or otherwise.—After some discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr Reader, seconded by Mr Buokman, that the Town Clerk at Picton be written to asking for further information as to approximate cost of connecting with tne main drain. Mr Reader was of opinion that this portion of the cost might be defrayed by the Board and collected afterwards on \ the instalment plan. The matter of annoyance to people walking along the footpath in Lucknow Street from overhanging hedges was brought up, and it was decided to notify the occupiers of all sections having overhanging hedges that these must be cut back/

It was decided to put the necessary metal on the main road opposite Mr Wm. Reid's residence and further out as early as possible.

Mr E. H. Smith inquired in behalf of a syndicate what price would be charged for the use of the Town Hall one night per week, say for ten weeks or more.—On the motion of Mr Reader, seconded by Mr Buckman, it was decided to allow the use of the hall and skates for two hours of one night in each week at 15s per night. In connection with the remuneration to the man who attends to the gas plant and town lighting, on the motion of Mr Reader it was decided to increase the pay from £2 to £3 per month.

The action of the chairman and secretary in paying off the balance of the amount outstanding to the Acetylene Gas Lighting Go's account was approved. Accounts totalling £76 8s 4d were passed for payment.
