A teyciney cablegram reports the ' death of Sir WilLam Owen, an exSupreme Court Judge. Miss H. M. Jenkins, M.A., daughter of Mr R. W. Jenkins, of Blen- | heim, has been appointed demonstrator in biology at Victoria College. The appointment is for one year, to date from February 1 next. In the class-list just issued by the Board of Theological Studies of the Anglican Church of New Zealand the following names occur: Grade IV part 2 class 1, Rev. G. R. Baraett, M.A., Christchurch; Grade 11./ class I, Mr J. A. Jermyn, Auckland!; Grade 11., class 3, Mr C. H. J. Dobson, Nelson.

The friends of Mr G. B. Sheridan will be pleased to learn that he has been successful in passing his annual examination in Christchurch, where he has been studying for the past ?«". The Christchurch Synod of the Mothodist Church has recommended the Conference to send Mr Sheridan to the University in Auckland for further training for the Methodist ministry.

Bush conductor of the Picton Bra., s Band, was the recipient or a handsome presentation in the shape of a valuable clock from the members on Wednesday evening on the eve of his marriage, and occasion was taken to wish him the beet of luck in his future career. Mr Bush was married on Thursday .to Miss Violet Ethel Fuller, third daughter of the late Mr James Puller.
