The House met at 2.30 p.m. ARCHITECTS BILL. The New Zealand Institute of Architects Bill (Hon. Mr Herdman) was read a first time. Replying to Mr Russell, The MINISTER stated that it was not intended to proceed with the measure this session. It had been introduced' in order that it might be circulated. RAILWAY RILL. The Railway Authorisation Bill was introduced by Governor's Message. Replying to Mr Witty; The MINISTER said the new raitway works proposed to be authorised were North Auckland (branch line to Whangarei), North Island Mfcin Trunk (Waiuku branch), East Coast Main Trunk, Opunake branch, Featherston- Martinborotigh branch, Culverden-Waiau, Balclutha, and Tuapeka branch. IRON AND STEEL INDUSTRY. The Special Committee set up to consider the iron and steel industry reported against the proposals of the Ethelburga Syndicate, . and recommended that the Government should make inquiry "into the iron industry in the Dominion. The report \va*s referred to the Government for consideration. IN COMMITTEE. The House went into Committee on the Town Boards Amendment Bill, P.ublic ■ Reserves and Domains Amendment Bill, Ellesmere Land Drainage Amendment Bill, Westport x . Harbor Amendment Bill, and State vPire Insurance Amendment Bill. STATE INSURANCE BILL. On the State Fire Insurance BiiL Mr ELL (Christchurch. - South) asked if the Minister for Finance would insist on all mortgagees insuring in the Stato Office. Tho Hon. Mr ALLEN replied that he had already, staged that he would recommend that preference, should be given to State Offices. Mr ELL said, that the. reply was ■/'bluff."- Previous Ministers had insisted on it. The Hon. Mr ALLEN: "That is not correct." , Mr ELL contended that the Minister's act was an act of disloyalty "towards "fche State Department. The House then adjourned.
