LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

The Legislative Council met at 11 a.m. MOKATJ PETITION. On the motion of the Hon. Mr RIGG, the Joint Committee's report on Joshua Jones's claim was referred to the Government for consideration. LAND BILL. The Hon. Mr BELL moved the third reading of the Land Bill. The Hon. Mr XLIGG said he was prepared to vote against the third reading on a division, on the ground that it was a freehold Bill 2 and he stood for Land Nationalisation. The Hon. Mr SAMUEL reviewed the provisions of the Bill, and said they were to be congratulated that "this poisonous cloud" of leasehold was being dispersed. The best interests of the mass, of the country were sacrificed in the past, because of the establishment of the lease-in-perpetuity. Th© Hon. Mr MILLS favored the leasehold tenure
