Mr D. E. Boon, of Nelson, is spending a day or 'two in Blenheim after having visited the Palmeriston Show.

Among the entrants for the forthcoming musical competitions at Wellington are Misses H. Cuthbertson and G. Mason for pianoforte solos, and Mr P. Reeves for the cornet solo.

Mr J. W. Salmon*!, SolicitorGeneral, will leave, for London on Friday to represent New Zealand before the special tribunal set up to adjudicate ori the Webster claim. The amount is £500,000 and the claim is made by the successors of an American whaler for lands in Auckland now in possession of the Crown. Dr Fit-; chett and * Sir John Findlay have already visited England on this business.

A young man, William Tow, died; somewhat suddenly at Panama House, Pictdn, on Thursday • morning (states the Press). •He was working on the reclamation works at the'new wharf, and on Wednesday complained of feeling: unwell. He was sent home by the foreman^ and was attended by the doctor, who proclaimed that he had received a severe strain to the heart. He passed a fairly good night, but early on Thursday morning his roommate found that he had breathed his last. The funeral took place on Saturday, in the presence of a large number of his fellow-workers and other friends. The Rev. T. J. Smith read the burial service. The deceased hailed from Seddon, and was wellrespected by all who knew him.
