HAVELOCK DOMAIN.

HELPING THE TENNIS CLUB

Our Havelock correspondent writes: —As decided at the regular meeting of the Havelock Town Board, the members and. secretary inspected the recreation ground on Friday, and levels were taken by Mr Matthews', with a view, if possible, to meeting the wishes of the Havelock Tennis and Croquet Club, the members of which, had expressed their readiness to find the -sum of £25 towards doing the necessary work. All the members of the Board were present, and it was unanimously agreed that the Club should be met, so far as the Board! could see its way to do so. The Chairman expressed himself as very keenly in favor of helping . the ladies of the Tennis and Croquet Club, many of whom had unselfishly worked to lay down the present tennis court, although they neyer took a racquet in hand. It was decidedly hard on them to have to prepare the ground each season after it had been cut up at other games. The recreation ground was intended for all classes of the community, and not exclusively for such games as football, hockey, etc.-;- and he was personally prepared to help the funds raised by the club to the extent of £5.

Mr Reader said he would donate £l to help forward the work. Finally the following resolution was unanimously carried:—-"That with the view of assisting in filling in the frontage to the* domain, certain road work, which has been held over, be undertaken in forming a cutting to the cemetery road, and that the excavated material be used for filling in the domain to a sufficient extent to enable the club to complete the work at an expenditure of £25." If some of those who can afford to do it will follow the example set by Mr Reader and the Chairman, the completion of the work should not be long delayed.
