MR WILLIS MAKES A STATEMENT.

(Received Sept. 10, 11.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 10. The Speaker's messenger handed the Telegraph representative the following statement:—"When the Telegraph reporters were excluded it came to my knowledge that the Pressmen of the Gallery had approached their employers with a view to tabooing Parliamentj thus depriving their readers of Parliamentary news. In order that the public should not be kept in ignorance I arranged for a daily issue of Hansard, but the Press, having continued to report the proceedings, the necessity for issuing Hansard broadcast was obviated and the expense that would' have fallen on myself avoided. I think there is cause for gratification in having directed attention to the biased reports of the Press, as the authority of the Speaker has been vindicated arid the publio has not been penalised."
