SEQUEL TO A TRAM FATALITY

MOURNERS HOLD UP NEW

YORK TRAFFIC

[press association. 1 (Received Aug. 17, 1.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 16. There was an extraordinary scene in New York yesterday, when an Italian was killed by a street car. Twelve hundred Italian workers knelt around the decapitated body in the middle of the street, and forcibly held up traffic for over ten minutes while they offered prayers for the soul of the dead man. The conductor declared that the Italian's death wag due to the fact that he jumped off on the wrong side in an effort to avoid paying his fare.
