WATER AND DRAINAGE.

TESTING THE TAYLOR RIVER

The following recommendations, made by the Water-Supply and Drainage Committee,/wereadopted by th-;-» Borough Council last'night :'-<-'

"That Mr Austin, CK-EL,'be engaged to take leveL from' (Blenheim to a point in tho Taylor Itiver region from 300 tv 450 feet above the town, with a view to fixing a suitable locality for the intake of the proposed water and drainage .system. ' ;',/ '•'>.

"That the Council furnish' the Committee witli the sum of £200 for the purpose of testing the Taylor River by means of a timber drive, to find out if the liver at a lower level under the boulders and gravel will supply sufficient water to provide 10,000 persons with 100 gallons per day.'" I It, was stated that the cost of "taking', levels would be about five guineas.. Though the hej ght of the region where it was proposed to establish the headworks was approximately known, io was advisable to obtain perfectly accurate data. A .timber, drive would be a reliable means of ascertaining the full capacity of the Taylor, and if the work were made of a substantial nature, it could be utilised for the purposes of the main scheme, (providing that the locality were adopted. ;
