INQUIRY CONTINUED

[PKESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAN3>,May 15The hospital inquiry was continued yesterday. A statement made on the previous day, that the matron accused Sister Rudd of telling lies, was mentioned by Mr Coyle. He asked Miss Griffiths to reply to his question whether she ever used the word lie in connection with her duties. Miss Griffiths: "I deny it." The matron then addressed the Board, reviewing the complaints in order. Referring to the general charge of want of method and neglect of instructions from the chairman of the Medical Committee, she again emphasised the.fact that she regarded lier, self as, a servant of the Board. She liad made an effort to carry put the wishes of Dr Pabst and work' iii harmony with him, but his wishes were so exacting that they clashed with the duties for which she was paid. Dr Pabst replied. He said that the charges were of insolence, nntruthfulness. prevarication, incompetence, and'inexperionce. He added that the matron liad not carried out her duties with the personal admiuistration and industry which the Medical Committee had a* ri<;ht. to' expect. After a wotr'acted discussion a motion'by Mr Coylo that the matron 'should be suspended until the Board adjndiea+ed upon the charges was lost on the chairman's casting vote. The following letter was^ received and read: "We, th*» undersigned sisters, representing the senior nursing staff of tho hosoital. regret that we feel we cannot submit our case to the

Board" We respectfully beg that inquiry into the case be submitted to an outside authority, either the In? sp'Sctor-Geheral of Hospitals or a stipendiary magistrate. (Signed) Sisters Longman,* Jackson, Rudd, and Sutherland.^'
