% Wellington, Jan. is. At a meeting of-Cabinet on Saturday, the Government decided! to ptiy members of the second division of tha railway service a minimum wage of 9s per day. This affects, in the traffic ■brunch, 956 potters, 12 watchmen, and 44 crossing-keepers; in the locomotive branch 350 laborers; in the maintenance branch 1900 surface men •mid laborei-s. In addition a further sum of £15,000 was authorised to men in .receipt of 9s and over, whose duties are of a. more important nature, and who are c.t present only in receipt of «• slight advance on the pay of men at 8s and 8s 6d. The rates of Wiigies to workmen on railway construction works .and engaged in the Public Works 'Department have <v.lso bevsn increased to 9s per day.
