SPRING GREEK ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Spring CJreek Road Board was held yesterday afternoon, the following members being in attendance: Messrs Jas. -Gane (chairman), ,W. Murray, F. Redwood, 0. Reeves, and W. Gifford.

FINANCE,

The secretary submitted a financial statement showing a credit balance of £114 5s 7d.

Vouchers for accounts totalling ..£97 19s 3d were authorised for payment.

WAIRAU BRIDGE

The Pelorus Road Board informed the Board that the tender of Messrs S. and R. Atkinson at £10,934 19s had been accepted for the construction of the Wairau River Jmdge (near Renwicktown), and the contract had been duly signed. In a further letter the Pelorus Board asked the Board if ifr had jurisdiction over the portion of land, at the southern end of the proposed bridge, of which they needed the right of access to enable the contractor to place his material. The Board's assistance was asked in the matter, regarding which any information would be acceptable. The secretary stated that he had informed the Pelorus Board that the land was under the jurisdiction of the Omaka Road Board. OPAWA TRAFFIC BRIDGE. In connection with the proposal to ■erect a new traffic bridge over the Opawa River on the up-stream side of the railway bridge, the District Engineer informed the Board that the portion of the Railway Reserve required for road approaches would be given up on the conditions: That a proper certified plan from a survey should be furnished by the Board for .proclamation purposes, while the Board would also have to arrange with tha Department's lessee regardiij -,r the ceding of the said land. Other conditions were that the main .road should not cross the railway, the northern approach to the bridge to be made up to the level of the stop-bank : instead*of building a new stop-bank as proposed. It was stipulated that plans of the new bridge should be submitted to the Department. The spans should, as far as practicable, ■correspond with those of the railway bridge, and the piers should be m j line of tlir> stream, not normal to the \ line of the bridges.
