MARLBOROUGH RIFLE UNION.

SOUNDS WIN SENIOR SHIELD

The Marlborough Rifle Union fired the final for the Senior Shield on Saturday, the competition resulting in a win for the Sounds Rifl© Club. The day was not veiy good for shooting, the light and wind being very trying at times. There were also a few light showers of rain, sind especi--ally at the last raage the weather upset several of the marksmen, who wev'e -shooting well. The sudden change in the wind caused several to lose the target. This is the Sounds' first win of the Shield, and it was largely due to the generalship of President Masefield. The ranges were 800 and 900 yards, 10 shots and one sighter. Rifleman A. Soper was top score for the day with a very good score of 95 oat of 100. Several others got over 90. Gapt. Watson and Mr D. Wemyss were range and trench officers respectively. The marking was very goofl -considering the state of the targets. Following are the scores:—
