MARLBOROUGH ITEMS

The usual grant-in-aid of £400 to the Marlborough High School is placed on this year's Estimates. A vote of £265 is made on account «of the Havelock-Pietbn , (Pe^us Sound) mail service. Last year £255 was 1 voted land £262 expended. The Wellington-Pelorus Sound service re- ' reives the same subsidy as last year (£"410). Of last year's amount £dO7 was expended. , -, <• The sum of £870 is put down for maintenance of way and works on the Picton section of railway. Last year s vote was-£10,075. For locomotive running and repairs and renewals or Tolling-stock £7950 is roted, as against £6620 last year. Traffic expenses are put down at £6000, as compared with £5600. There is a vote of £70 for charges incidental to the Jackson's Head The pound-for-pound subsidy of £25 towards the cost of building a slip tor fehermen's- boats at Kaikoura is renewed; as is also the grant of £150 for the protective works at the Ma--puku Kiver. ~, , n , nn A pound-for-pound subsidy of £100 is granted towards theJ«)St_ of reclaiming and improving tne Waitohi Domain at Picton. „'„„,. ~ There is a vote of £120 for the ■wages of the caretaker and the cost or preservation of scenery (including clearing of a fire-belt) at Ship Cove and other reserves. .. .
