The real interest in the debate centred, in the attitude of the profession towards the proposals recently made by Mr Mowers; Acting-Chief Secretary, in fayoi <>fa general sys--1»m of State, hospitals. ■■■■:'.'■■ Dsr. Worxall, of Sydney, hoped that whatever Ministers did the profession would fight to' tine last ditch the proposal, whichl was not only adverse to the interests of medical men, but also to the interests, of the sick poor. . . 1 Dr. Nash, of Sydney, supported Mr Flowers's scheme, but the majority of other speakers were more favorable to the continuation of the present voluntary system. Dr. Robertson, New .Zealand, skid the mistake, made in New'ZeaTarid'hospital legislation was. that they failed 1 to nidbpt the primary understanding that the hospitals; were intended for the sick poor. The Congress adopted a resolution thiat if the Government undertook thio entire financial support of the hos-; pit&ls, patients who were able to obtain medical services outside the hospitals should bo excluded1, and that the Boards of Management shouldl be retained';
