RIOTING IN AUSTRIA

IMPORTATION OF FOREIGN MEAT DEMANDED.

VIENNA, Sept. 18. The Socialists held ia demonstration as a protest against the dear price of ■food. Fifty thousand marched, in procession to the Rathaus, end many violent speeches were delivered, demanding the' importation of foreign meat and, the reduction of the cost cf jiving. The demonstration culminated! in rioting, during which innumerable windows were smashed, including those of the law courts. The tramoars were wrecked, and the' police and soldiery stoned. Barricades were erected, and the furniture from the restaurants and schools piled in the streets and set fire to. The Dragoonsi were called out, and after a charge the crowd dispersed.

Towards evening the, rioting was renewed in the workmen's quarter in the Ottakririg district. The troops were called out, and fired at the mob, killing three, and wounding four severely. Eighty were slightly wounded, and 170 arrested.
