On the opening night of Melba's Grand Opera Company in Sydney, the galleryites, who had been in their seats nearly all day, had quite an interesting time. Mr Hugh Ward sent them up a piano, and songs and comic opera selections helped to while away tlie hours. Then Madame Melba, who has more than once urced musical students and others to dismiss all "class consciousness" and make the fullest possible use of the gallery, not only provided them with, afternoon tea— 600 cups of it—but went among them as hostess herself.
