(NOTES BY "SPECTATOR.")

This is the selection that some people are vain enough to think will beat the Wellington A. "rep" team. It is the selector's worst effort,-when ( the class of players to be found her* this season is - taken t into account. How ho can justify the inclusion of Daly and .Mcgridge on the wing it would be interesting to know, when there are such men as Ryder, Cudby, Lambert, and J. Costello to *hoose from. There was great-disappoint-ment in town on - Saturday night when the team was made known, and many of those who favored Marlborough's chance of success against Wellington very soon changed their jtune, and the expression "What Wellington will do with them?" was freI quently beard. It will be seen, also, 1 that Southgate has been_ selected _to play on the wing, a position-in which he has failed to make' good on several occasions in club matches. This player admits that he is lost on the wing, and yet he is pitted against^ Tom Walsh, one of the hottest propositions that he could be asked to take on. It is hard to say what Wellington will do, but it will come as a very, agreeable surprise if the score is not SO "to nil in the home team's favor when- "no side 13 is sounded. Four good backs and fhree very, indifferent backs cannot hope to succeed against the formidable Wellingtonians. The forwards certainly will hold their own*; but this will not gain victory for their side.
