A ROWDY GATHERING
PROHIBITION V. RESTORATION
MASTERTON, March 20
Mr Bedford commenced an openair address on Prohibition on Satur- 1 day night in the presence of over j 1000 people. He had a trying time, i being subjected almost continually to loud hooting and yelling. Cheers , were given for -both sides ot the question, then Mr E. G. Eton, chairman of the local Hospital Board and members of other public bodies, got I up on the platform and denounced Prohibition as a failure from a business point of vieAV. j Mr Jabez Bridges, No-license, organiser, was then refused a hear- ; Mr Cameron, another well-known .; resident, put a motion in favor of i restoration, and this was declared carried by an overwhelming majority. It was the rowdiest gathering ( here for twenty years. i At a meeting in the Town Hall last night, addressed by Mr Bedford, the following resoultion was carried by acclamation- "That this vast assembly of Masterton citizens declares that nolicense is a magnificent success, and in the best and highest interests ot the community.
