A PLEA FOR CAPTAIN ATWOOD

[PEESS ASSOCIATION.]

WELLINGTON, March 18. Mr T. Wilford, M.P., representing the Merchant Service Guild, waited ;«& the Hon. 'Mir Millar this morning in reference to the case of Captain Atwood, master of the Elingamite, which was wrecked at the Three Kings nine years ago. Mr Wilford said he liad evidence; in* his possession to fhe effect that if the islands had been correctly charted the couree steered by Captain Atwood -would have cleared them by three miles. Mr Millar said 'he would be very ? leased indeed to consult the Crown iaw Officers with a view to seeing what steps could be taken to afford Captain Atwood an opportunity of clearing his name from the stigma cast upon him, and give him every opportunity possible to clear himself.
