PALMERSTON, March 16. Somerset House, at Bulls, the.residence of John Stevens, ex-M.P., was totally destroyed by, fire yesterday afternoon. Only the piano and some books and papers were saved, and, it is feared Mr Stevens' valuable^ collection of old documents and papers relating to Native and district history has been burnt. AH the personal effects were destroyed^ The building was erected 4Q iyears ago, and for years was the finest in the district, and was only recently added to. The insurances are: £600 on the building and £300 on tlie furniture.
