WASHINGTON, March 16. The Central and Pennsylvania Railroads were fined respectively £7000 and £4000 for illegally granting rebates to the Standard Oil Company. Litigation began in 1907.

LONDON, March 16. Dr Williams, Medical Officer of Health, London, report* that 27 to 36 per cent, of three consignments of ox livers from Brisbane and Lyttelton were diseased and unfit for food.
30 NEGRO WORKMEN BURIED.
OTTAWA, March 16. By the collapse of the walls of ai hardware store at Nashville after a fire 30 negro workmen were buried under the ruins. Twelve dead bodies were recovered. The accident was caused by the strong wind.
A DIAMOND FIND
OTTAWA, March 16. A geological survey reports, the discovery of diamonds of small size in the Oliviene Mountains, British! Columbia. The discovery is not thought to have any commercial value.
